in case you were wondering...

This is the poem I wrote preemptively to have what I would consider a "proper answer" to Andrew's burning question. It's titled simply:

Madalyn's Response

Andrew, my love, if I am reading you this poem,
You've asked me to share your life, your home.
To doubts, you know, I have been prone,
So this answer will be moments postponed.

You know I am a romance pessimist
So although your smile is hard to resist,
And I hope your lips will be the only I kiss,
My sight's shadowed by my flaws too numerous to list.

I fear the dragons and their wicked fire
And the ways they will manipulate our desires
I worry that our love will tire
Of bearing the weight that commitment requires.

And so thinking of that day that we wed,
And promise fealty until we're dead,
Melancholy possibilities already permeate my head,
And my doubting heart fills with dread.

Then I think of God's work in our past together,
And how we are called to fellowship with him forever,
Though we have drifted, he remained our tether,
And provided calm and light in our stormy weather.
Then I know each day I will want to be yours more than ever
So, with trepidation and each trembling letter,
I accept your invitation to be your wife for worse or better.
